Every photo on this page is our own work
Not a catalog. Not a rendering. Not somebody else's backyard bought from a stock library and cropped to look like ours. Every image above is a St. Johns Outdoors project, photographed on site — most of them finished, a few of them mid-build, because the days between the quote and the walkthrough are worth seeing too.
So treat this as a starting point rather than a catalog of everything we do. If the thing you have in mind is not on the page, it almost certainly is not because we do not build it.
What to look at in these photos
Most people look at the color of the stone. The color is the easiest thing to change and the least likely to go wrong. These six are what actually separate a job that still looks right in ten years from one that does not.
Borders and banding
Look at the frame around the field, and at how cuts land against a curve. A crisp border course is the clearest sign the layout was drawn before anyone started laying stone.
Where it meets the house
Follow the line where hardscape meets the slab, the step or the enclosure. That junction is where sloppy work shows first, and where it is impossible to hide.
Edges and joints
Open edges need restraint or the field creeps outward over the years. Tight, even joints across a whole surface are a base-and-installation result, not a paver you can buy.
Grade and drainage
Water has to leave and go somewhere sensible. Fall is set during base work, before a single paver is down, so it is one of the few things that cannot be fixed later.
Transitions between materials
Deck to coping, patio to walkway, stone to wall cap. Notice whether each change of material reads as a deliberate decision or as two jobs meeting by accident.
Light, shade and use
Ask where the sun lands in July, where people would actually sit, and how the space works after dark. A backyard is judged by how often it gets used.

Bring it to the estimate
The most useful thing you can do with this page is arrive at your estimate with two or three photos you like and one you do not. Knowing what you want to avoid narrows a design faster than anything else, and it saves a round of drawings.
Our estimates happen at your house, always — we tried quoting remotely and it did not hold up, because grade, drainage and an existing base cannot be read from a satellite image. Your written quote follows promptly after that visit.

Landscape design and landscape lighting are both services we offer, and neither is photographed here yet. Nor are seating walls and elevation changes shown as subjects in their own right, though you can see them doing their job in the hardscape section.

Because the sections are different sizes of job, and because the camera has been at some of them more than others. Outdoor kitchens and pool decks are the deepest sections here. Landscape and planting is the shallowest, at two photographs, and we have left it that size rather than padding it with work that is really something else. What is on this page is what we have photographed — it is not everything we have built.
