Last updated August 2026

St. Johns Outdoors is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology. Anyone who wants to talk to us about their yard should be able to get through this site and reach us without a fight.

Standards we aim for

We work toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. That is the standard we build and test against. We do not claim full conformance across every page — accessibility is something we keep working at rather than a box we tick once — but it is the target, and where we fall short of it we treat that as a defect to fix.

What is built into this site

These are the accessibility features actually present on this website today, not aspirations:

  • A skip to main content link that appears when you press Tab, so keyboard users can jump past the navigation.
  • Full keyboard navigation — every link, button, menu, accordion, and form field can be reached and operated with the keyboard, with a visible focus outline showing where you are.
  • Reduced motion support— the site's scroll animations are switched off automatically for anyone whose device is set to reduce motion, and can also be turned off manually in the accessibility menu.
  • Descriptive alternative text on project photographs, with purely decorative images hidden from screen readers so they do not add noise.
  • A logical heading structure — one main heading per page and no skipped levels, so screen reader users can navigate by heading.
  • Color contrast chosen against the WCAG AA contrast ratios rather than by eye.
  • Labelled forms — every field has a visible label, and errors are described in text rather than by color alone.

The accessibility menu

The button in the lower-right corner of every page opens an accessibility menu. From it you can increase or decrease the text size, turn on a high-contrast mode, reduce motion, and underline all links. Your choices are saved on your device, so they stay set as you move around the site and when you come back later. The cookie notice sits in the opposite corner, lower-left, so the two never overlap.

Known limitations

Two things on this site are worth naming honestly. The Google map embedded on our contact page and in the footer is third-party content we do not control, and its own accessibility is Google's; our address and phone number are always available as plain text alongside it, so you never need the map to reach us. And our project photography is visual by nature — the alt text describes each project, but if you want a fuller description of any build, call and we will walk you through it.

Ongoing effort

We review accessibility when we change the site, and we treat reported barriers as bugs rather than suggestions. Some older content may not yet be fully optimized. If you find something that is not right, telling us is the fastest way it gets fixed.

If this site does not work for you

You never have to use this website to do business with us. Call (904) 925-3089 during business hours, Mon–Fri 9am–5pm, and a person will answer — we can take your project details, book your in-person estimate, and read you anything on this site over the phone. Our office at 4949 Sunbeam Rd #2, Jacksonville, FL 32257 is staffed during those same hours.

Tell us about a barrier

If you hit a barrier anywhere on this site, or have trouble using any part of it, please tell us so we can help you right away and fix the underlying problem. Call (904) 925-3089 or write to St. Johns Outdoors, 4949 Sunbeam Rd #2, Jacksonville, FL 32257. It helps if you can tell us the page you were on and what went wrong.
